The Lighter Side of Life
It's tough out there!
Like most of Gen Y, Bridget relies on her mobile and laptop to organise her life.
This particular morning she awoke to find most of the eastern suburbs were without electricity due to a major power outage. She had no idea of the time, since as a typical Gen Y she doesn't wear a watch - her mobile keeps time for her. But alas, this morning her mobile had a flat battery.
She couldn't recharge the phone, nor could she use the laptop or TV to find out what was happening. Horrors! She had to actually talk face-to-face with a neighbour to get news of the power problems.
Like most of Gen Y, Bridget doesn't carry much cash. So she walked to a money machine in Haitaitai Village to get cash for the bus. Hold on. No power. Which means no operating ATMs.
She figured she would have to call a cab and... no mobile.
So... a dreary walk through the smelly fume-filled Haitaitai tunnel saw her finally arrive at work, tired, annoyed and thirty minutes late.
Shopping list for the trip home? A battery-powered radio alarm clock, spare batteries, and some cold hard cash to stash in a tin under the kitchen sink for emergencies.
Right now, I bet her Grandma is chuckling.
