The Leadership Challenge®

The Leadership Challenge® is a leadership development programme by bestselling authors Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, it approaches leadership as a measurable, learnable, and teachable set of behaviours.

The Leadership Challenge® Workshop has been delivered around the world for over fifteen years to consistently great reviews. It is backed by 25 years of original research and data from over 3 million leaders. Kouzes and Posner wanted to know what people did when they were at their "personal best" in leading others, and surveyed people across a variety of sectors, public, private, government, manufacturing, engineering, healthcare, education, etc .. When leaders were at their best they followed the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership:

They set the example by aligning their actions with their personal values. They set interim achievable goals so that their followers can achieve a win as they work towards larger goals.
  • Inspire a Shared Vision: Leaders look into the future of the business and envision new possibilities. They are positive, bringing about the accomplishment of the vision by enlisting others, through understanding and tapping into their individual aspirations.
  • Challenge the Process: Leaders are pioneers, willing to step out and change the way things are. They experiment and take risks and learn from the accompanying mistakes. They seek innovative ways to change, grow and improve your operation and business processes.
  • Enable Others to Act: Leaders know they cannot do it alone, so they foster collaboration and strengthen others. By actively involving people in planning and decision-making, and through acts of trust, delegation and respect, leaders increase the competence and confidence of their followers.
  • Encourage the Heart : Leaders ask their followers to carry out difficult tasks, they recognise and reward individuals along the way, and they celebrate the achievement of milestones.

The Leadership Challenge has sold over one million copies and has been translated into 12 languages. The Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) is one of the most widely used leadership assessment instruments in the world, it is a 360-degree leadership assessment tool that helps individuals and organizations measure their leadership competencies.
