Easy Tips for a Sustainable Office.
Even if you missed Jared Blumenfeld’s inspirational presentation at Challenges '08, here are some tips for a sustainable office. Every small step helps.
- Ensure you recycle: Make sure there are plenty of options for recycling. Recycle paper, your milk bottles, and look for companies that recycle old printer cartridges, computers, office equipment and furniture.
- If you need to replace office equipment check that
• If it uses energy ensure it is an energy efficient model. Check it's energy rating.
• Replacement printers should be able to do double-side copies to cut your paper consumption.
• Recycle the old stuff, don't send it to landfill.
- Power down
• Set your computers/laptops up so that they go to sleep after a period (say 20mins) of inactivity.
• Turn your computers and other office machinery off at night and week-ends.
• Turn the lights off in meeting rooms etc when they are not in use.
• Replace bulbs with energy efficient ones and make the most of natural light.
- Buy products that are in themselves recycled: paper, toner refills etc.
- Find suppliers who provide eco-friendly products and send it to you with the minimum of packaging and/or will recycle packaging for you.
