Case Study 4
Client: Department of Conservation
Project: People Matter Programme
The Need
The Department embarked on a new strategic direction which focuses on improving community support for conservation and developing closer relationships between staff and the communities they serve. This called for the development of interpersonal skills at the interface between DOC and the community.
The Solution
We work-shadowed DOC staff as part of the programme’s development and worked with a staff project team to ensure the content was relevant and fully customised. Since 2001 more than 850 staff have been through the programme. Measures of its success include a 35% improvement in customer survey ratings for the Department and 91% of participants improving their communication and conflict resolution skills (as measured by the Department’s performance management system). The programme is ongoing and runs nationally.
Testimonial
"Nexus Partners has been working with the Department of Conservation over a sustained period to help us build the skills that our people need to interact effectively with each other, the public and our other key stakeholders. As a direct result, our people are more able to make good decisions, explore wider options and be flexible in the way they communicate.
In particular we have appreciated the way that Nexus Partners has become immersed in our culture and got to know our business. We have found them to be an invaluable resource in developing both our people and our organisation."
Iain Rayner, Development Advisor, People & Organisation Development Group, Dept. of Conservation
